Swim team

The Moab Sea Devils Competition Swim Team is for youth 18 years and under. Emphasis is placed on skill development and participation in home and away meets for competitive swimmers. Swimmers are expected to attend practice regularly and work diligently. Team parents are recruited to provide transportation to meets, food and lodging for away meets, and to help manage their children at the meets. Swimmers are required to meet specific proficiency requirements in order to participate.

Swim Team enjoys two seasons annually. Summer season typically runs from mid-April through the end of July and Winter season from the end of September through mid-February.   Members may obtain more information and registration packets at the MRAC front desk. All forms must be completed and returned to the front desk along with payment in full before the swimmer is permitted to attend practices. All registration takes place at the MRAC. Team fees are $60 for MRAC passholders and $75 for non-passholders, team T-shirts included. Financial aid is available for eligible families; call the MRAC at (435) 259-8226 for more information. Join the team!

MRAC Recreational Swim Club

The Moab Recreation and Aquatic Center Swim Club is a program for young swimmers who desire an opportunity to refine their techniques with the goal of becoming proficient and possibly competitive swimmers. It is our hope that the club will build enthusiasm for the sport of swimming and will encourage members to move on to the competitive swim team once they are ready. Swim Club will hold a year-end inter-squad meet to provide swimmers the experience of a quasi-competitive event.

Practices will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the MRAC from October 22 through January 30. The focus will be on stroke development, conditioning and fun!

The MRAC Swim Club is not intended to take the place of swim lessons. Swimmers will be required to meet the following proficiency requirements in order to participate:

  1. Prospective swimmers who have not previously been in the club or on the Sea Devils Swim Team must pass a swim test administered by the coach before joining. They must be able to swim 25 yards (one length) freestyle and 25 yards backstroke.
  2. Club coach will have discretion to fail a swimmer, even if the child completes the swim, for weak form or inadequate conditioning. In these cases, coaches may recommend swim lessons.
  3. The swim test will be conducted at the beginning of practice. If the test is passed, then parents may register at the MRAC front desk. Enrolling swimmers MUST be registered and paid before their next practice

Registration fee is $40, due at the time of registration. Swimmers who have not paid will not be permitted to participate. Interested parties should show up for their skills assessment at any of the designated practice times listed above.

We ask that swimmers come dressed appropriately (competition one-piece swim suits for girls and swim trunks or jammers for boys) and highly recommend goggles and caps for practice. Goggles and caps are available for purchase at the MRAC.

Parents are expected to be prepared to help with Club events; e.g., organizing the year-end meet and party and any other assistance that coaches may require.

Advanced swimmers are encouraged to join Swim Club if they are not yet old or experienced enough to try out for the GCHS Swim Team. Swimmers who desire preparation for competition will be accommodated and encouraged to compete on an individual basis in away meets by invitation and will also receive instruction intended to prepare them for GCHS Swim Team.
